Construction

For a model of this size, we get by with very few technical components. Only here and there they are used to improve stability. The tractor makes the beginning of the structure. First, the chassis is built with the steering of the two front axles. Then it’s the turn of the driver’s cab, which has a minimal interior with various printed parts. In the coming construction steps, further superstructures and the wheels will be installed. The spare wheel behind the driver’s cab also serves as the Hand of God for steering the wheels. The front of the vehicle is a little unstable here and there and one or the other part likes to fall off again. Overall, the construction is quite stable.

Most of the technical components are used for the articulated lorry. Otherwise it would not be possible to get it stable in this length. In the end, however, it doesn’t look like a technology set, since all the technology parts are well disguised. I found the two chains, which were already completely built, to be pleasant here. COBI would have required many small links to be linked, which is not particularly pleasant work. The articulated lorry consists of 7 axles with twin tires. The bed plates are a little tricky. In order to attach these, I first had to remove part of the tires because they just wouldn’t engage properly. At some point this work will also be done and we will build the two folding ramps at the rear.

Conclusion:

The SLT Mammut is a very beautiful and, above all, large model that takes up a lot of space on the shelf. The large articulated lorry can easily accommodate all tanks of this series. Even with the Panzerhaubitze 2000 there is still a lot of space left. Apart from a few problem areas that were a bit difficult to build, the result is quite stable and it was a lot of fun to build.
