Construction

Of course, for a large model like the Karl mortar, we also need a stable base made of plates. However, COBI has completely dispensed with large plates and connects smaller plates in several layers. However, this does not detract from the stability. With the top casters in place, let’s tackle the few interior details. There is not more than one seat for the driver and 2 mighty exhaust pipes. A nice built engine would have been a nice upgrade. With various separately built attachments, we widen the hull and build the guide for the actual mortar.

Before we continue on the top, we turn the model over and take care of the gear. Here, too, attention was paid to stability. The rollers are all countered with plates. The 118 chain links form a long chain that runs buttery smooth. Now it’s time for the mortar. For this we first build a rail system that can slide on the hull and thus absorb the recoil. There are also the first tiny innovations. The wheel used to adjust the height of the mortar here consists of a steering wheel. In addition, 2 bars with C-Clamps are attached. The rest is completely identical to its predecessor.

In the coming construction steps, the mortar and rail system will be connected and placed on the hull. Before the barrel is built and attached, a surrounding railing is built. The loading system for the grenades is also identical to that of its predecessor. There is one more minifigure and the dog seems to have grown a bit.

Conclusion:

You have to look at this model from two perspectives. On the one hand, it is a very successful mortar with a considerable size. Anyone who does not yet own a Karl device can access it here and will certainly not be disappointed. However, if you own the predecessor and expect visible improvements and more building fun, you will probably be disappointed. There are very few isolated upgrades like a small chain on the railing. There is really more only in the price, which has increased by around 25%.
